The Irish College seminarian charity officers presented a cheque for €3000, collected in response to this year’s College Lenten appeal, to the  Community of Sant’Egidio, represented by Ms. Erica Borruso, after Sunday Mass on 14th April 2013. Sant’Egidio reaches out the poor of Rome and other cities with friendship, food and service, and is also involved in international peace initiatives. It was founded by Andrea Riccardi, then a university student, and a group of students in 1968, as an effort to live the Gospel. Half of the Irish College seminarians are assigned to a pastoral placement on an evening each week with the Community of Sant’Egidio. In this way, the seminarians have been enabled to give meaningful help to poor and homeless people in the city and to experience the spirituality and dynamism of one of the new movements in the Church.

Thanks to all who contributed to the appeal during Lent. Contributions were made by the Sunday Mass congregation, by those who attended the Saint Patrick’s Day play, and by the members of the Irish College community, and by other donations.
