This week, we were delighted to welcome Dr Brian Heffernan to the Pontifical Irish College for a presentation on his new book, Leo XIV: An Augustinian Life in Context (Messenger Publications).📚

Drawing on his extensive research, Brian offered staff and students an engaging exploration of the history and spirituality of the Augustinian Order, highlighting how its theological vision and historical experience helped shape the man who would become Pope Leo XIV.🇻🇦

The occasion carried a particular poignancy as Dr Heffernan presented his new work in the very place where Cardinal Robert Prevost himself addressed the Irish College community just two years previous! We are deeply grateful to Brian for sharing his scholarship and insights with our community. 🙏🏻

Last evening, we celebrated Mass for the opening of the new academic year. With all three of our communities now gathered on the Caelian Hill, priests, seminarians, and lay students, we gave thanks for the beginning of another year of formation, study, and fellowship. 🙏🏻

We also marked a significant milestone in the history of the Pontifical Irish College: the centenary of the arrival of students at our present home on the Caelian Hill. One hundred years on, we remember with gratitude all those who have formed part of the College community as we embark on a new academic and formation year forming missionary disciples. 🇻🇦

Last week, we were delighted to welcome more than 40 alumni back to the Irish College for a special week-long celebration marking the 100th anniversary of the College on the Caelian Hill.🏛️

A particular highlight of the week was the opportunity for our alumni to meet the Holy Father, before returning to the College for a special banquet with invited guests and friends.
It was a wonderful occasion to celebrate 100 years of the Irish College on the Caelian Hill, and to give thanks for the generations of students who have been part of its story. ☘️🇻🇦

This weekend, our lay students headed out of Rome for their opening year retreat in Bracciano! 🌿

It was a wonderful opportunity to pause, pray and reflect as they begin their time of formation together — stepping away from the busyness of the city and spending time in the beauty of nature.

And, of course, no retreat is complete without a night of songs around the bonfire! 🔥🎶
